MOUNTAIN BIKE MEDICINE

THE PLAN is pretty simple:  

MOUNTAIN BIKES. EMERGENCY MEDICINE. CERTIFICATION.

Mountain Bikers agree- this is a sport that gets you deeper into the backcountry- faster- than most any conventional means of travel.  As essential to any tool you might carry for your bike, the knowledge and skills to treat a medical emergency or survive an unplanned night out is imperative.

Don’t just read about it on the internet- Practice real-world scenarios and case studies on the trail and DEVELOP A PLAN. These courses are designed for riders, by riders, to learn the most common types of injuries for the sport, and to practice the skills to help mitigate or treat an emergency

3 LEVELS OF TRAINING:

First Aid for the Mountain Biker (8 hours)

Wilderness First Aid for the Mountain Biker (20 hours)

Wilderness First Responder for the Mountain Biker (80 hours)


FIRST AID FOR THE MOUNTAIN BIKER

Enhance your craft by learning the fundamentals. This course is geared towards real life scenarios on the trail. Medical topics include: Stabilization, Lifting/ Moving, Extrication, everything TRAUMA related, and most COMMON Bike injuries. 

Appropriate for: MTN. BIKE ENTHUSIASTS, TRAIL CREW, VOLUNTEER GROUPS, RACE TEAMS

Prerequisites: None

Cost: $150.00

Certifications: American Heart Association's First Aid, valid for 2 years.

The address is: 2801 Mission Street Extension Suite 2839 Santa Cruz, CA 95060 You can park across the street in the big parking lot with large solar panels covering it. Head to the door with the giant "2801" above it and head up the staircase to the second floor. Follow the signs to MBOSC!

WILDERNESS FIRST AID FOR THE MOUNTAIN BIKER

This class is active and practical - participants will learn fundamental wilderness medicine and prevention, while developing important judgment skills for outdoor emergencies. Additionally, we review emergency bike repairs, sports nutrition and hydration. This backcountry series covers all the WFA curriculum, emphasizing on situations particular to mountain biking emergencies. 

Wilderness First Responder (WFR) re-certification (additional e-labs and practical apply).

Appropriate for: MTN. BIKE ENTHUSIASTS, TRAIL CREW, VOLUNTEER GROUPS, RACE ORGANIZERS, MTN. BIKE SHOPS.

Prerequisites: None.

Cost: Dependent on venue.

Certifications: Backcountry Medical Guides' Wilderness First Aid and American Heart Association's Heartsaver CPR and AED, both valid for 2 years.

Level 3: WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDER FOR THE MOUNTAIN BIKER

THE PINNACLE for the professional or recreational rider. This class prepares students to respond with expert knowledge and plan-in-place. The practical is drilled both on and off the trail, while total coverage of remote medical care is honed in the classroom. This course satisfies Wilderness Medical Society guidelines for Wilderness First Responder. 

Appropriate for: MTN. BIKE ENTHUSIASTS, TRAIL CREW, VOLUNTEER GROUPS, RACE ORGANIZERS, MTN. BIKE SHOPS.
