We're family. We're friends. We draw from years of experience in all aspects of rescue and emergency medicine. Most of all, we love teaching—which is why we got into this whole thing from the beginning. Read our stories and meet the crew.
Administrative Staff
John is the Founder and Executive Director of BMG. As a career paramedic, he has worked on helicopters, ambulances, ski patrol, as a ranger, and as a captain. He is a long time liveaboard, sailing nut, and adventure cruiser—coupling sailing with surf, climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, and snowboarding. He lives in Bellingham, WA with his wife and son.
Matt is a PNW native who loves exploring wild places and sharing outdoor adventures with others. He has taught, guided, and managed outdoor programs across a range of settings and is thrilled to support the BMG team by keeping operations organized and adventures running strong.
A Washingtonian and Navy veteran, Jenny Rae earned her master's in environmental education and nonprofit administration at WWU and co-founded Wild Whatcom and Chuckanut Builders before joining BMG. When she's not working, you'll find her trail running, gardening, or deep in the backcountry with her husband, two sons, and their adorable dog Yoshi.
Gillian grew up in Juneau, Alaska and has been enchanted by coastal mountains all her life. She has found Bellingham to be a lovely place to explore by bike, skis, kayak, & time by the water. She started at BMG as an intern in 2022 before graduating from WWU with a major in Recreation Management & Leadership. Since then, she has transitioned into a logistics and customer service role.
Maggie brings decades of experience helping enterprises get organized & connect with others. As a graduate from Cal Poly -SLO School of Agriculture and employee at many local, organic farms she honed her talent educating others about the importance of protecting our health and ecosystem. As Program Manager at BMG, she ensures our courses run smoothly and clients stay happy. Maggie is a caretaker and adventurer – when she is not at home caring for her family and plants, she can be found stretching her body and spirit, exploring in the company of good friends.
Alayna grew up in Missoula, Montana, where she found her passion for skiing, climbing, and enjoying all that the outdoors has to offer. She is working to get her political science and economics degree at WWU. She is currently the equipment specialist for BMG and spends her weekends ski instructing up at Mt. Baker (she takes requests). Since moving to Bellingham, she has loved exploring this new area and pursuing her passion for adventure.
