Wilderness Medicine Essentials Part 2 is the Spring installment of Whatcom County and Backcountry Medical Guides’ Adventure RX series. Each session is designed to deliver immersive, seasonally relevant, field-based medical training for healthcare providers and outdoor professionals/enthusiasts. The curriculum combines thought-provoking lectures with scenario-based skills practice to strengthen community capacity and professional development in austere environments.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements of the Washington State Medical Association through the joint providership of PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center and Backcountry Medical Guides. PeaceHealth St. Joseph is accredited by the WSMA to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Spring brings a mix of unpredictable terrain, variable weather, and unique injury patterns. This session focuses on rapid assessment, adaptive use of gear, and clear evacuation planning for incidents in remote or hard-to-access environments.

    • Field care for concussions & TBIs

    • Bites, stings, and vector-borne disease response

    • EMTs, Paramedics, RNs, PAs, MDs

    • Guides, bike patrol, SAR, and outdoor educators

    • Trail stewards, coaches, or skilled recreationalists who lead in the backcountry

    • Field instruction from experienced faculty

    • Hands-on practice with improvised and real-world equipment

    • Up to 7.5 hours of CME.
